Hi, I’m Ray. I spent my formative years living in the mountains west of town and I’m a long time Boulder resident.
I’ve been working in trees in the Boulder area since 2011. A length of experience can be worth a lot or a little. I don’t think it’s the most important qualifier but it can be valuable. Over time a curious and motivated arborist learns a lot about how trees and shrubs respond to pruning, the importance of treading lightly on the properties where we are invited to work and many other things that elevate the quality of the service they provide. I try to be constantly improving and applying lessons learned so that you and your trees get the best possible care.

My most outstanding attributes as an arborist are that I am a talented tree climber and a skilled pruner. There is a lot that goes into doing this work safely and effectively. I use ropes, a safety harness and lots of little climbing gadgets to access the tree canopy. Carefully climbing all throughout a tree, I make intentional pruning cuts that accomplish short term goals such as risk reduction while considering the potential consequences of pruning and seeking to guide healthy growth and development.
Along with my brother I owned and operated a tree care company in town for close to ten years, called Small Axe Tree Care. Eventually we went our separate ways, closed that business and I ended up taking a year off from tree care work. I returned to tree care in the fall of 2025 with a renewed vigor and a fresh perspective. In my next chapter as an arborist in Boulder I am excited to build new relationships with people that appreciate a more personal service experience and value a high level of care and attention to detail.

I look forward to working with you!
